Apple had their annual hardware announcement today. Here is a summary.

  • Apple Watch - new colors and new bands
  • iPad Pro - bigger iPad with the new Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories
  • New Apple TV - developer tools and apps, heavy Siri integration, touch and voice remote
  • iPhone6s and iPhone6s+ - with the new 3D touch and upgraded camera
  • iOS9 will be released September 16th.

Apple Watch

New Apps are coming out:

New watch styles (i.e. just colors and bands, tech specs appear to be the same) available September 16th:

  • Hermes Apple Watch with a long hand-stitched leather band
  • Rose Gold and Anodized Aluminum Apple Watch Sport
  • Product Red Bands
  • More Band Colors


The anticipated iPad Pro is out (and thats what is actually called). Here are the details:

  • Bigger Screen (12.9 inches) which uses some new features such as:
    • for software keyboard
    • utilizing iOS 9 multitasking
  • 2732 x 2048 resolution with 5.6 Million Pixels
  • new A9X chip, Apple's 3rd-generation 64-bit with double bandwidth, double graphics, and nearly double the performance
  • 10-hour battery life
  • 4-speaker sound system
  • 8MP iSight Camera
  • new accessories specifically for it:
    • Smart Keyboard which uses a new smart connector which
    • Apple Pencil for more precise interaction with the iPad such as sketching/drawing and has a lightning connector for recharging

And top of it all they have someone from Microsoft demoing the new Apple Pencil and iPad Pro. Yes that Microsoft! Other apps demoed include:

  • Adobe Comp, Photoshop, Sketch
  • 3D4Medical - looking and manipulating anatomy models

  • $1,079 - 128GB and LTE
  • $399 for the brand new iPad mini 4 which is basically a mini iPad Air 2
  • $99 - Apple Pencil
  • $169 - Smart Keyboard

Apple TV

The future of TV is apps that was the big quote from Tim Cook. This TV has a new developer friendly OS called tvOS. Features highlighted:

  • new remote with touch and Siri integration
  • searching for programs and movies in different apps (i.e. Netflix, Hulu, etc...)
  • Siri integration allows you to:
    • turn on captions
    • search movies
    • navigate video
    • get information (cast, sport scores, weather, etc...) without interupting your viewing
  • Apple Music integration

The new OS tvOS already has some new apps. The games were first highlighted such as:

  • Galaxy Fire
  • Disney Infinity
  • Guitar Hero
  • Crossy Road - which includes multiplayer using other iOS devices
  • Beat Sports - multiplayer and uses motion controls in the new remote

Other apps demoed were:

  • Airbnb
  • Zillow
  • Gilt - shopping app for the living room
  • MLB - major league baseball scores, stats, highlights and full HD video

The hardware specs for the TV are:

  • Ethernet and 802.11 ac
  • HDMI
  • Bluetooth 4.0 - no need to point remote

Available in October at these prices:

  • $149 - 32GB
  • $199 - 64GB.
  • $69 - for the existing Apple TV

Last but not least the tvOS developer beta is available today.


The new iPhone6s and iPhone6s+ were announced today. Highlights are:

  • new aluminum finish in varying colors
  • stronger glass for displays
  • 3D Touch which allows contextual interaction
    • expanding on what the Apple Watch currently does with Force Touch
    • includes a Taptic Engine for touch feedback
    • demos with Messages, Mail, Facebook, Dropbox, Instagram, and Freeblade were also shown
  • Hey Siri no longer needs to be plugged in

Hardware specs for the new Phones include:

  • A9 chip
  • M9 motion co-processor which is always on
  • Second generation Touch ID fingerprint sensor
  • Faster LTE and WiFi

The new camera technology was also heavily featured such as:

  • 12MP iSight camera - with better pixels and more focus pixels
  • 4K video - 8 million pixels per video
  • 5MP front facing camera
  • TrueTone Flash using the retina display
  • Live Photos take a photos and include sound and bits of video which can be accessed using through 3D Touch

A new pricing model (depending on model, size, and contract) was featured with a new iPhone upgrade plan. The iPhone 5s, 6, and 6+ are still available. The new phones will be available on September 25th with preorders available September 12th.

Last but not least iOS 9 will be release September 16th.
